The biggest and the most elite SUP race was held this weekend in Poreč. Although rain was expected on Saturday through Sunday evening, sun was shining and our SUPer weekend was better than ever. European SUP elite paddlers arrived and practiced on Friday which is how we knew that this will be the biggest SUP race in region.
Saturday morning started warm and sunny with more than 60 SUP racers with lot of friends and companions from Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Hungary and Spain. Also some riders arrived straight from world cup race in Japan.
Event was organized by Surfmania team, Valamar Hotels and tourist boards of Poreč and Tar – Vabriga.
This year’s race was a little bit different than classic long distance 14km race because we prepared small technical part in last 2km. This year’s winner was Leonard Nika from Italy with time 1:24:35, little bit more than 4 minutes later than record holder world champion Michael Booth from Australia. First woman to finish was Susak Molinero from Spain in 1:35:45. Croatian colors were represented by Željko Srdoč in 7th place with time 1:29:40 and Nikica Ljubek in 16th place with time 1:37:10. Biggest surprise and honorable mention goes to Laura Bartl from Austria with 3rd place in Elite Woman with time 1:45:10.
In amateur races we had a bit over 30 contestants and a couple of kids (8 to 11yr.) who showed off their skills in 1km race. Monster SUP race and SUP yoga also made this event more than SUP race.
Winners split money and valuable prize fond from our sponsors Nixon, Surf Shop Zagreb, Aquapac, JP-Australia, Starboard, Porsche Interauto Rijeka worth over 7000 eur.
Also Valamar Club Tamaris Hotel personnel afforded us with great and unforgettable dinner.
Contestants were really happy with organization and race conditions with view over the beautiful Poreč archipelago and already announced their arrival next year to bigger and event better race.
